The Laundromat Library League is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy through the placement of children's books in laundromats across the United States.
We appreciate your donations of books and financial contributions of any size. We always need children's books and we have expenses for storage fees, basic supplies, and the purchase of books to fill 'gaps' in our donations (such as Spanish books and books with multi-cultural characters). Every donation will be used for these purposes. Our board of directors, dedicated staff, stewards, drivers, book sorters and web helpers are all unpaid. The website has been donated as a Legacy Site.
Whether you are collecting spare change or are able to make a significant donation, your gift, no matter the size, allows us to purchase books that we rarely receive through donations, such as children's books in Spanish and books that feature multi-cultural themes. Our annual operating budget is less than $4,000 a year. Most of our expenses are for our small storage unit, insurance, and basic supplies.
Donations of Books
If you live near West Chester, PA, we accept donations of new and gently used children's books (Birth - Teen) to be distributed to our different locations. We are always in need of children's books in Spanish, and are also seeking books that represent the populations we serve. Contact us on where to drop off your donation. Email at email@example.com
If you are stewarding a laundromat in another state and are actively accepting childrens book donations, please provide us with a count of books you receive so we can update our records.
Other ways to donate!
Usually we start a laundromat with the decorated cardboard "Library Box", then eventually replace the cardboard with a decorated wooden box.
We appreciate donations of handmade wooden boxes and can provide details for Scouts and handy adults who would like to build Library Boxes. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Reusable Sturdy Bags
We are seeking donations of sturdy reusable bags like those pictured above. These bags serve as an easy way for transport books to various destinations.
Spare Change Collection
A local AAUW organization held a 'Piggy Bank' Fundraiser for the LLL last fall. Members were given a plain white ceramic piggy banks to decorate and fill with spare change for several months. The highlight of the event was the judging of the creative banks and the donation of the spare change resulting in over $850 to the LLL!
